A familiar room, ready for a refresh

The homeowner loved this kitchen and wanted to keep what made it feel like home. Its layout and original wood cabinets stayed; the worn finishes were ready for new life.

Keep the layout. Rework the details.

RCR worked within the existing footprint, exposing the cabinet frames and reworking the island rather than starting over.

A lighter ceiling

The bulky ceiling light box came down. New recessed lights gave the room a cleaner, more open look.

Finding the right wood tone

Stain samples were laid out on the island before refinishing the original cabinetry.

Original cabinets, renewed

RCR sanded and stained the existing cabinet doors and reinstalled them. Rex is shown working on the cabinetry.

New surfaces and sink

New countertops and a sink brought everyday function up to date while the original wood cabinetry kept the room’s character.

Same kitchen. New life.

The finished room keeps its familiar arrangement, with restored cabinets, an updated island, new surfaces, sink, appliances, and lighting.

One more space to bring along

The adjoining bar had the same original wood cabinetry. Leaving it untouched would have made the two spaces feel disconnected.

A finish that carries through

RCR refreshed the bar cabinetry with the same treatment, bringing the kitchen and bar together.
